The past 90 days have been an inspiring and encouraging period of time that has allowed me to meet with thousands of honest, determined, patriotic Americans in Michigan’s First Congressional District.
My decision to run for the Republican nomination for Congress was to continue my public service to this great country. The concerns I heard about the direction our country is headed from residents in Bay County to Keweenaw County and the 29 counties in between, transcended geographic boundaries. I listened to their message of restoring trust, honesty and integrity in government. I know that they have not lost faith in America, but are troubled with where our leaders are taking us.
The election results showed that an overwhelming, record number of people are concerned about America and voted in the Republican Primary. The voters from across the district exercised their constitutional right to tell Washington it is time for a change. It also showed that despite differences between the candidates, we worked together to encourage the public to exercise their judgment and vote for candidate of their choosing.
The results could not have been closer, as demonstrated by the one vote difference on election night and the continued narrow margins as the 31 counties certified their results.
After carefully looking at the results, my wife and I have talked to Republican activists and community leaders from throughout the First Congressional District and across the state. After prayerful consideration, I have chosen to not pursue a recount.
After a spirited primary season, it is important to come together as a party and help elect the entire Republican slate. It is time to bring fiscal conservative values back to our government and rein in the out of control spending that is mortgaging our future. It is time to get leaders in government that will clear the way for business growth and end the relentless expansion of government and regulation that is choking off business growth.
Thank you for your support. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for your belief in me and my message. Thank you for welcoming my family into your community. Thank you for being “All in for Allen.” I look forward to continuing to work with you in the future to make our state and nation stronger.
